with Andrea Bendevald. I am so excited to have this conversation. And I first want to say, I usually talk about hard news. And today we're talking about a much softer topic, which is community building. And that's because so many of you told me that you are struggling to find

connection and feel like you'd like to create more in-person connection and community. You're not quite sure how to do that. So I had an instant answer because this is a person who has helped me with that in my own life. And it is my thrill and honor to introduce Andrea. We call her Dre. So hi, Dre.

Thanks for being here. Hi, Jessica. Thanks for inviting me to be part of this conversation. And thanks for doing what you do because... you've made this time, this transition really, uh, kind of doable. And also you're my friend. So I get to talk to you one-on-one and every, everything that you offer us has,

Building Community through Circling with Andrea Bendewald

We share a strategy for in-person connection, through Circling

Hi. I’m dropping into your inbox over the weekend with a different kind of offering.

To those of you who come here only for news, this may not be for you. We’ll back in your inbox with hard news on Monday!

To the many others who’ve reached out telling me you need community and are struggling with in-person connection, I hope you find this helpful.

Andrea Bendewald is a friend and the founder of The Art of Circling. Circling is a way of gathering that involves sharing your story and deep listening without judgment. In the first half of the conversation we talk about the benefits of circling. In the second half, Andrea explains how to start a circle in your own community.

Last year I joined a circle Andrea facilitates and I’ve found it to be nourishing in a way that’s different from other social experiences. It brought new friends into my life; it brought me closer to people I’d known in a more superficial way; and most of all, it brought me comfort because I felt heard and not judged after sharing about topics that were challenging for me.

One note: in the conversation we sometimes talk about circling with other women. While this is a practice women have used for years, it is also used by men and in mixed gender groups. Anyone who cares to share can do it!

Andrea offers training in circling and can facilitate circles for others. For that, you can reach her at the Art of Circling. You can also listen to her podcast, Circle This and follow her on Instagram.

I know that these days many of you feel that the proverbial “village” is lacking. We’ll schedule another group Zoom soon. Please let me know what else we can offer to help you find the resources and connection you need.

And thank you
