Do you remember the first days of this term? President Trump froze federal funding and DOGE guys marched into agencies, plugged in laptops and started accessing data. Many of you emailed me with the same question: “Why isn’t anyone doing anything?!” (Your messages contained many more exclamation points.) Enter Skye Perryman.
On day eight of this term I interviewed Perryman, President and CEO of Democracy Forward. She told us she’d just taken the administration to court and won a victory: a judge had ordered a hold on that federal spending freeze. It’s still in place. Since then Democracy Forward has filed more than 55 legal actions relating to everything from DOGE to deportations, to attacks on the Department of Education and more.
As we approach day 100,
updates us on the status of Democracy Forward’s cases. She also addresses how well she thinks the courts are holding up and what might come next. Perryman was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2025, so we touch on that, too.Watch the video by casting your eyes to the top of this email then hit play.

Next week I’ll be interviewing lawyer, political analyst and civil rights activist
