The question of the hour: Who tells AI ‘no’?
Earlier this week, there was an unusual scene up on Capitol Hill: ChatGPT Creator and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman testified before Congress and asked members to please regulate AI. You don’t often hear tech founders ask for government regulation.
OpenAIs’ decision to roll out ChatGPT to the general public while still troubleshooting some possibly humanity-destroying problems has raised fears that the tech companies are chasing an AI gold rush with unknown consequences for life on earth.
Today, instead of news that doesn’t suck, we’re bringing you this week’s news on artificial intelligence including:
Why tech leaders are asking Congress for help;
What they’d like Washington to do;
Causes for skepticism;
And some concrete examples of how AI can be implemented – the good and the bad.
